Transcript: Some Known Chemical Carcinogens Seen as DEA, TEA, MEA, ETA on Labels. The FDA has "expressed concern" about this chemical, because it is directly linked to cancer in lab animals, messing with brain development in baby mice when applied onto the pregnant mom. Treats Psoriasis and Dandruff Found in synthetic colors in make up Found in 22% of products. We all know what this is. But it's listed on products as: And it's in: nail polish baby lotion bubble bath anti-perspirant make up hair dye As a "preservative". Lead, and Mercury It's in your mascara. It's in your eyes, and you're eating it. Think of how many products you use in a day. Multiply that by at least 10 chemicals. Is it ethical to put cancerous chemicals in products that people use every day, under the guise of beauty, and routine? Because they don't have to. We as consumers take the product at face value. We want to smell nice, hide our flaws, enhance our beauty. We buy the products, so they keep making them. Companies in the UK have banned thousands of chemicals that US companies currently use. Those same companies change their formulas to sell in the UK. Where are the ethics in that? There are many products out there that are natural, but you have to read the labels. Companies jumping on the "Green Movement" know that you want to see that the chemical of the hour is not in their product. But, it is still loaded with 9 other chemicals that are equally as damaging. This is called "Green Washing". An Example of Green Washing Ingredients Water, Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Cocoamidopropyl Betaine, Sodium Chloride, Cocamide MEA, Cassia Hydroxypropyltrimonium Chloride (Cassia Tora Seeds), Bambusa Vulgaris Shoot Extract, Vitis Vinifera Seed Extract (Grape), Persea Gratissima Oil (Avocado), Panthenol, Panthenyl Ethyl Ether, Citric Acid (Corn Starch or Sugar Cane), Dimethiconol, Fragrance, Sodium Benzoate, Disodium EDTA, PEG 7M, Methylchloroisothiazolinone, Methylisothiazolinone, Sodium Citrate, Sodium Xylenesulfonate, Yellow 10, Red 33, Blue 1 There are many of options out there for chemical free products, and the internet provides us many choices. You don't have to stop by the local hippies soap stand at the farmers market (although, you should support your local small business...) We could implore the FDA to make laws to change the way cosmetics are distributed and tested in this country, but that costs a lot of money. Money that the hippie at the farmers market doesn't have. The one that is selling you soap made from 5 natural ingredients. The one that cares about their customer base enough to not put neurotoxins and carcinogens in their products. Now, the hippy probably isn't a scientist. How can we know for sure what she is selling is safe?! Scientists go to school for a pretty long time and learn all sorts of cool things about chemicals. These scientists also have made the connection that since fromeldehyde preserves dead bodies that its a great preservative to put in shampoo. The choice as a consumer is yours. And chances are, they can tell you what is in thier product off the top of their head. Coal Tar It's in your lipstick. Listed as "thimerosal". 1,4 Dioxane For example, we have to condition our hair, because shampooing strips the oils out of it. And, most of the products that you use are counteracting what another product has taken away. Normally doesn't appear on labels, but if it ends in "eth" or "oxynol" chances are it's in there. formic aldehyde methanal menthyl aldehyde oxymethane Formaldehyde It is in practically every cosmetic and is listed under too many different names to list. This makes your soap and shampoo foam. Why don't company's not use certain chemicals in their products, knowing that they could be dangerous to consumers? 67% of which are in products designed for kids. Have beautiful hair, naturally.... The Nature Fusion Line Some times mouthwash and toothpaste. Or not listed at all. Or do we really live in a buyer beware world? Water, Ammonium Lauryl Sulfate, Ammonium Laureth Sulfate, Sodium Chloride, Cocamide MEA, Glycol Distearate, Dimethicone, Fragrance, Panthenol, Panthenyl Ethyl Ether, Cetyl Alcohol, Polyquaternium-10, Sodium Citrate, Sodium Benzoate, Ammonium Xylenesulfonate, Disodium EDTA, PEG-7M, Citric Acid, Methylchloroisothiazolinone, Methylisothiazolinone The "Ethanolamines"

For every bottle of water or mineral, there is 450 years of decomposition that must take place. Every time you throw away a plastic spoon, it will outlive you by at least 100 years. Newspapers and magazines Cardboard Aluminum cans Food and drink cans Office paper CDs/DVDs Plastics Plastic bottles and cartons Milk and Juice cartons/tetra packs Lil' ol' me? Can I make a difference? Turning off heaters and lights in offices and bathrooms can also reduce energy consumption. What can I put in the orange bags? Unfortunately, a lot of paper used in the office ends up in the bin just due to avoidable mistakes. Proofreading electronically, checking printer settings, and checking how many jobs are pending can reduce paper waste. “Every dollar you spend . . .or don't spend . . . is a vote you cast for the world you want.” Paper Energy Green and Clean: Conscientious Ways to Make a Difference in Our Office Our office uses an average of 10 reams of plain printer paper every two months. 10 reams = 5,000 pages Annually, that's about 30,000 pages of printer paper per year, not including headed paper and any additional printing. L.N. Smith 60% of our electricity is supplied by renewable resources like wind power 40% comes from coal, gas, peat and oil Cutting down on electricity cuts down on consuming non-renewable resource and the pollution that it causes. Turning your computer off at the end of the day can save up to €288 per person per year. That's over €4,000 annually. At the very least, putting it on sleep mode and turning off the monitor will greatly reduce energy use. Greener and Cleaner

Efficient Natural Gas Conserving Electricity Page 4 I think that in the future we should have all houses with Solar panals which may be expensive at the start but in the long run will pay off. Also windmills can be used to get help generate more electricity, and use nuclear power for heat. Electric Page 3 Greener is Cleaner Energy cannot be created and every time it is transferred it looses quality. New Electric Cars As you can see, the average energy consumer uses less gas in the summer due to the fact that gas is mainly used to heat your home Energy and You Electric Summary Turn down heat on stove after water is boiling Abandon the practice of pre-heating an oven!! Dont heat empty rooms Wash clothes in cold water As you can see, the average energy consumer uses more electric during the summer due to the fact that electricity is used to cool your house Forms Conserving Natural Gas From the graph shown, it seems that we use what is worst for the environment the most and what is best for the envirmonment the least. Doesnt that not sound right? Efficient Electricity So why do we waist our money on gas when there is a better alternative, Tesla Motors, Toyota, and General Motors are making electric cars in bulk now! Great with students, workers, family, etc. For example: With games like Jeopardy and Family Feud, players can pick practically any answers. The person who is running the game will have to have all of the answers in order to determine if players are correct or not. However, with a game like Who Wants to be a Millionaire, the players only have a choice between answers, A, B, C, or D. Therefore, when the player decides their answer, the person running the game clicks it, and the game will tell them whether they are right or wrong.
